SPRINT: Spin Polarized Research Instrument in the Nanoscale and Time Laboratory

Contacts: Giancarlo Panaccione, Riccardo Cucini

SPRINT is a new endstation for the generation of high harmonic at high repetition rate (HHG). It is addressed at the study of ultrafast magnetic processes in solid state physics by means of an upgraded vectorial Mott detector and a hemispherical electron analyser, suited to perform narrowband time-resolved valence band photoemission spectroscopy and spin detection.

The beamline, completed in 2017 by the collaboration between IOM-CNR and the T-ReX Laboratory of Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste, from 2018 is available for national and international users within NFFA-Trieste project, an open access infrastructure offering direct integration between nanofoundries and analytical large-scale facilities.

SPRINT represents the only HHG-based beamline for time resolved photoemission spectroscopy and spin polarization at European level.

In 2019 SPRINT has been equipped with two laser sources (PHAROS) with a common oscillator, both emitting pulses at 1030 nm, with time duration of 300 fs, variable repetition rate from 50 kHz up to 1 MHz, pulse energy of 400 µJ and average power up to 20 W.
